We are pleased to be able to inform you that in conjunction with the Oliver King Foundation and with the backing of our Local MP, Dame Rosie Winterton, we have been able to purchase a defibrillator and train 12 members of our school staff in their use. We are proud to say we are the Flagship school in Doncaster!
Thirty years ago it was discovered that if a series of events took place a person suffering from Sudden Cardiac Arrest stood a greater chance of survival. These events are now known as the ‘Chain of Survival’. The first link is Early Access to Emergency Care, in other words dial 999/112. The second link is Early CPR. The third link is Early Defibrillation which is where school having a defibrillator come in and the fourth link is Early Advanced Care or Life Support – hospital.
It is a shocking statistic that Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) kills over 2000 people a week in the UK alone and at least 12 of these people will be young children under the age of 18. Of these incidents at least 80% will happen outside of hospital. With emergency service times currently being greater than 10 minutes, without a defibrillator close at hand the chance of survival is almost 0%. However, with a defibrillator close at hand this chance increases to over 50%.
Not only will our defibrillator be on hand in case of an emergency in school, we are in a position where during term time and school opening time we can assist the local community too in the even of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest. In the event that you require the defibrillator and a trained member of staff to assist please contact main reception on 01302 853289 or come into school.
We would like the thank Mark Kind, Oliver’s father, for setting up the Foundation and promoting such a worthy cause in memory of his son. Below are some pictures of the presentation:
